I'm getting really nervous about my 2014 Dodge Ram 1500 with the 5.7 Hemi. Over the past month I've noticed a puff of white smoke when I start it in the morning, and recently I started smelling coolant inside the cabin when the heater is on. The oil looks normal, no milkshake yet, but I'm losing about a liter of coolant every two weeks with no visible leaks. A friend who's a mechanic said it sounds like the head gasket might be failing between a coolant passage and a cylinder. I'm trying to find a shop that can do a combustion leak test on the cooling system and a cylinder leak down test to confirm before I commit to a huge repair. I've been looking for Experienced Head Gasket Abu Dhabi specialists that actually know the Hemi and can tell me if it's worth fixing or if I should be looking at a new engine. Has anyone here had the early signs of head gasket failure on the 5.7 and caught it before the engine overheated? Also wondering if it could be a cracked head instead of just the gasket.
