I need a reality check from people who've had this done recently because I have a nagging feeling I paid way more than I should have last week, my sedan needed front brake pads replaced, nothing unusual or complicated as far as I understand it, just a standard job, and the shop I went to quoted me a price that at the time seemed reasonable since I didn't really have anything to compare it against, but after mentioning the amount to a friend later that evening he looked genuinely surprised and said that seemed high for what should be a fairly routine service, which now has me wondering if I just got taken advantage of because I didn't bother getting multiple quotes beforehand like I probably should have, does pricing for this kind of work actually vary that dramatically between different garages, or was my friend maybe just assuming a lower price based on an older experience that doesn't reflect current rates anymore, I'm trying to compare brake pad replacement cost across quality workshops in Dubai now just so I have a better reference point going forward instead of blindly trusting whatever number the first place I visit throws at me, does the type of pad used significantly affect pricing, like is there a notable cost difference between basic pads versus higher grade options that would explain a price gap this large, or does labor cost alone vary enough between shops to account for what I'm now second guessing, also is it normal for pricing to differ significantly based on car brand even for what's essentially the same type of service, because my car isn't anything particularly rare or luxury, just a fairly common model, so I don't understand why the price would have been notably higher unless something else was going on that I wasn't told about, I don't want to become the type of person who obsesses over every repair cost, but this specific situation has genuinely made me want to actually understand fair pricing before my next service instead of just trusting whatever number gets quoted without any real comparison, so if anyone's recently had similar work done and can share what they ended up paying, I'd really appreciate having something concrete to compare against going forward.
